Democratic nominee Tim Walz agreed Wednesday to a date for a vice-presidential debate hosted by CBS News.

“See you on October 1, JD,” Mr. Walz wrote on X while reposting a CBS News proposal it had sent to both campaigns.

The network said in the X post that it had sent four potential dates — Sept. 17, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, and Oct. 8 — for a New York City debate to each campaign team.

Republican nominee J.D. Vance did not respond to reporters in Michigan asking about whether he’d agreed to a date.

In a Fox News interview, Mr. Vance told host Laura Ingraham that he was open to an Oct. 1 debate, but did not directly commit to it.

A Democratic campaign official told CBS, consistent with recent messaging that Republicans are ducking debates, that Mr. Walz “looks forward to debating JD Vance — if he shows up.”
