Police in Virginia confirmed Monday that a 17-year-old boy shot and killed himself by accident after waving a gun while recording a video.
Local authorities in Suffolk, Virginia, said the teenager died from what police believe was an “accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound” to his head Wednesday.
Police didn’t share the teen’s identity, but it appears to be Suffolk-based rapper Rylo Huncho, who died the same way on the same day.
Rylo’s video starts with him gesturing with the pistol and aiming its barrel at the phone camera, showing off the weapon’s green laser.
He then appears to flip off the safety and point the gun at his head before inexplicably pulling the trigger. The camera becomes blurry as the teen falls out of the frame.
Warning: Disturbing content.
Rylo’s video was posted to the rapper’s Instagram story — a type of post that expires after 24 hours. It’s unclear who posted the clip to his personal account.
A family member set up a GoFundMe page for Rylo’s mother last week. The fundraiser description said, “Suicide/accidental was the cause of his death we are still trying to figure out why.”
The fundraiser set a goal for $15,000. It has brought in just over $3,000 in the five days it’s been active.
