A Fairfax County firefighter had a close call Tuesday, when an explosion erupted after he opened a door at an evacuated building in Bailey’s Crossroads. No one was injured.
The Fairfax County Fire/Rescue Department posted a video on X of the door opening and the blast, adding that the unidentified firefighter was OK.
The building was evacuated before the explosion, and no firefighters or civilians were injured, fire officials said in a separate post.
The building was undergoing a utility emergency when firefighters responded to the scene. Fire officials did not specify whether the issue was related to a gas line, electricity or another cause.
The utility company pegged the issue to underground wires. The wires powering the building went faulty, and the fire climbed into the building.
The opening of the door let oxygen rush in, causing the explosive burst of flames, Dominion Energy spokeswoman Peggy Fox told WUSA-TV.
