The Pentagon again is dipping into its supply to send Ukraine about $150 million worth of military hardware, everything from rockets and artillery rounds to cold weather gear and night vision goggles. The U.S. also is providing Kyiv with 2 million rounds of small-arms ammunition.

On Thursday, the Defense Department announced the 49th tranche of equipment from current U.S. military stock to aid Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

“This security assistance package is another visible signal of the United States’ continued commitment to supporting the Ukrainian people in the face of Russian aggression,” the Pentagon said in a statement. “The United States remains committed to working with allies and partners to provide Ukraine with capabilities to meet its immediate battlefield needs.”

The U.S. has committed almost $44 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since Russia launched its invasion on Feb. 24, 2022.

“Security assistance for Ukraine is a smart investment in our national security,” the Defense Department said. “It helps to prevent a larger conflict in the region and deter potential aggression elsewhere while strengthening our defense industrial base and creating highly skilled jobs for the American people.”

The Pentagon said its support of Ukraine’s struggle against Russia won’t be adversely affected by U.S. military assistance to Israel following the Oct. 7 Hamas attack from Gaza that resulted in the deaths of 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and hundreds of others taken hostage.

“The Biden administration calls on Congress to meet its commitment to the people of Ukraine by passing additional funding to ensure Ukraine continues to have what it needs to defend itself against Russia’s brutal war of choice,” the Pentagon said.
