Chicago police said two off-duty officers were robbed at gunpoint Friday night in the South Loop.
Authorities said an armed, goggles-wearing robber approached the off-duty female officers and another woman who is also a city employee around 11 p.m. Friday.
Police said one of the women tried to grab her police badge out of her purse, but the mugger aimed his gun at her and told her to freeze.
The robber made off with multiple Chicago police IDs, badges and firearm owner identification cards. The mugger then hopped on a motorcycle and sped off.
The Windy City is dealing with a wave of robberies in recent months.
Local radio station WBEZ reported that August, September and October each saw more than 1,000 robberies reported citywide.
It’s the largest spike in muggings Chicago had seen in 20 years, according to the analysis.
