Two people were killed and five others wounded in an early Sunday shooting in Northwest, D.C. police said.

The St. Patrick’s Day shooting occurred around 3 a.m. near the intersection of 7th and P streets NW, Executive Assistant Chief Jeffrey Carroll said.

Chief Carroll said two people were mortally wounded by gunfire. Five survivors were taken to hospitals, but police didn’t provide an update on their condition. All the victims are adults.

Police described the gunman as a Black male with an average build, who was last seen wearing light pants and a blue shirt. He ran south on 7th Street NW after the shooting.

The shooting remains under investigation.
