A pair of thrill seekers are facing trespassing and illegal masking charges after they BASE-jumped off an apartment building’s roof in the Arlington, Virginia, neighborhood of Ballston this year.
BASE stands for building, antenna, span and earth, referring to points and objects from which enthusiasts leap.
On Jan. 2, the two suspects used a valid combination to enter the Meridian at Ballston Commons apartment complex, although neither lives there.
They then donned masks, parachutes and helmets and leaped from the roof at around 10 p.m., falling over 200 feet, according to local news site ARLnow.
Daniel Hayden Kidd, 26, and Cody Ryan Henson, 30, face charges of trespassing, a misdemeanor, and illegally masking up, a felony, according to court records.
“Text messages between the two involved discussion about planning the jump, if the building needed a key fob or not, as well as discussing the importance of not talking to the police, and the need to ‘disappear for a while,’” per a criminal complaint filed against them, according to ARLnow.
Mr. Kidd was arrested Jan. 4 and Mr. Henson on Jan. 13, according to court records. Both were released on their own recognizance and will appear at Arlington’s General District Court on Wednesday.
