A fight broke out and shots were fired at Chase Avenue Urban Park in Bethesda, Maryland, this week, resulting in police arresting two, one of them a juvenile.

The shots rang out at around 10 a.m. Wednesday, the Maryland-National Capital Park Police’s Montgomery County Division posted on X. Nearby Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School was put on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. No victim was located by police when they arrived.

On Thursday, the Park Police arrested an unnamed juvenile, who has been charged with unspecified gun offenses in what the department called a “noncontact shooting.”

Nicolas Paolo Blanco, 19, of Bethesda was also arrested. He has been charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and unspecified gun charges, the Park Police said.

B-CC Principal Shelton Mooney told school families in a letter that, having reviewed footage of the fight, shooting and subsequent dispersal of people in the park, some of those involved were students from the high school, according to Washington’s WTTG.

The lockdown was changed over to a shelter-in-place protocol at 1:21 p.m. Wednesday and students were let out of the school on time, the Montgomery County Department of Police posted on X.

Extra security and police were stationed at the high school for the rest of the week.

“There is never any way to handle anything like this, like a lockdown at school, frankly, anything at a high school that is going to make every parent happy. … I don’t know how a school is supposed to prevent a fight at a park,” B-CC Parents, Teachers and Students Association President Laurie Bolt told the TV station.
