WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Former President Donald Trump secured a victory late Tuesday night in North Carolina, one of seven critical battleground states that will determine who wins the White House.
Mr. Trump, who was hunkered down at his Mar-a-Lago estate, was ahead of Vice President Harris in North Carolina by 51% to 48% with more than 90% of the votes tallied.
The former president also led Ms. Harris in Georgia, another battleground state, by 3% with more than 95% of the vote counted and he appeared to be closing in on wins in several other swing states, although those races were too close to call.
Analysts predicted the former president may secure wins in all seven battlegrounds with the help of historic gains among Black and Hispanic voters. A win would make him the first person since Grover Cleveland in 1893 to win a second, non-consecutive term.
It’s the third time Mr. Trump won North Carolina’s 16 electoral votes. He beat Hillary Clinton there in 2016 and narrowly came out ahead of Mr. Biden in 2020.
