Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah arrived at the White House Tuesday to meet with President Trump as he tries to convince the Middle Eastern country to take in refugees from Gaza.

The King and Crown Prince received a warm welcome from Mr. Trump upon their arrival at the West Wing of the White House. Mr. Trump greeted them at the door and walked them inside.

When asked if Saturday was still the deadline for Hamas to release hostages, Mr. Trump responded, “yes,” and said he thinks the terrorist group will listen to him.

He didn’t answer any shouted questions about his meeting with the King.

“He’s a great man,” Mr. Trump said.

The president will hold bilateral meetings with the Jordanian duo and have lunch with them. There is no joint press conference scheduled.

The King and the Crown Prince are the third and fourth foreign leaders Mr. Trump has met with in his second administration. He met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba last week.

This meeting comes as Mr. Trump repeatedly talks about his plans for the Gaza strip, including the U.S. taking it over and rebuilding it. He has called for the nearby Middle Eastern countries to take in the more than 2 million residents from Gaza while the Palestinian territory is turned into what he calls the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

King Abdullah has openly opposed the idea of Jordan taking any more refugees. However, Mr. Trump said Monday that he would withhold the billions of dollars of U.S. aid that Jordan and Egypt receive if they don’t agree to his plan.
