President Trump wants his efficiency bloodhound, Elon Musk, to be “more aggressive” as scrutiny and legal roadblocks pile up against his government efficiency apparatus.

Mr. Trump tasked the tech billionaire with rooting out waste, fraud and abuse under the banner of the Department of Government Efficiency. Since its launching shortly after the president’s inauguration last month, Mr. Musk and his team have found billions in savings.

But Mr. Trump wants more.

“ELON IS DOING A GREAT JOB, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM GET MORE AGGRESSIVE,” the president posted Saturday on Truth Social. “REMEMBER, WE HAVE A COUNTRY TO SAVE, BUT ULTIMATELY, TO MAKE GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE. MAGA!”

In response, Mr. Musk said on X, “Will do, Mr. President.”

DOGE said on its website that it has saved $55 billion. That figure comes from cuts to the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Education Department and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Mr. Trump and many Republicans have praised DOGE’s work, with the president going so far as to say the Musk team could bring his administration “very close to balancing budgets for the first time in many years.”

The billions are just the start of the trillions in savings that Mr. Musk is targeting.

Meanwhile, he has come under heavy scrutiny from Democrats and the courts.

A federal judge temporarily halted DOGE’s access to a payment system at the Treasury Department, and House Republicans returning to their districts this week were met with unhappy constituents fearing Mr. Musk’s crusade may mean loss of jobs.
