President Trump will mark the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks by participating in an annual remembrance ceremony at the Pentagon and will then travel to New York to attend a Yankees game in the evening.

Vice President J.D. Vance and second lady Usha Vance will attend the ceremony at Ground Zero in New York City.

Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins will attend the Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The memorial honors those killed on United Flight 93, which crashed in a rural field with 40 passengers and crew members aboard after passengers began fighting the al Qaeda terrorists who had hijacked the plane.

Mr. Trump and Mr. Vance both visited Ground Zero ahead of last year’s election. President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who was then the Democratic nominee, also visited the site.

The Trump administration last week began exploring whether the federal government can take control of the National September 11 Memorial & Museum in New York City. The memorial is on the same site in lower Manhattan where the World Trade Center’s twin towers stood until they were destroyed by hijacked airplanes on September 11.

A public charity, currently chaired by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, operates the memorial.

Democrats, including New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, accused Mr. Trump of “meddling” on a sacred site that should remain free of political control. However, some victim families welcomed the idea, saying the museum has dragged its feet on moving the remains of 1,100 unidentified victims from its basement and should include the names of those who have since been identified as 9/11 victims by the city’s medical examiner, according to the New York Post.
