President Trump spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Wednesday, the White House said, after talking earlier to Russian President Vladimir Putin about ending their long-running war.
In a Truth Social post, Mr. Trump said the conversation with Mr. Zelenskyy went “very well.”
“He, like President Putin, wants to make PEACE,” Mr. Trump wrote. “We discussed a variety of topics having to do with the War, but mostly, the meeting that is being set up on Friday in Munich, where Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will lead the Delegation.”
He said he is “hopeful” that the Friday meeting will be “positive.”
“It is time to stop this ridiculous war, where there has been massive, and totally unnecessary, DEATH and DESTRUCTION,” he wrote. “God bless the people of Russia and Ukraine!”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said she spoke with Mr. Trump about both calls and said the president called them “very good calls.”

“They were very positive and the administration is wholeheartedly committed to a peace deal to end once and for all, the Russia-Ukraine war,” she said.
Mr. Trump said his call earlier Wednesday with Russian President Vladimir Putin was “lengthy and highly productive.”
Mr. Trump wrote that he and Mr. Putin “agreed we want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the War with Russia/Ukraine,” Mr. Trump wrote. ” … We both believe very strongly in it. We agreed to work together, very closely, including visiting each other’s Nations.”
The president said throughout his campaign last year that he could have the Russia-Ukraine war on his first day in office. He maintains that ending the war is a top priority for him.
