Former President Donald Trump offered up support for two New York Democrats who were sued by women alleging sexual misconduct — a situation he is familiar with himself.
In a Truth Social post on Wednesday, the former president said he hopes New York Mayor Eric Adams and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo “and all of the others that got sued based on this ridiculous law where someone can be sued decades later, and with no proof, will fight it on being totally unfair and UNCONSTITUTIONAL.”
The lawsuits against Mr. Cuomo and Mr. Adams came to light last week as the New York’s Adult Survivors Act was expiring. The 2022 law gave sexual assault and harassment victims a year to sue their abusers in civil court regardless of the statute of limitations. Since it went into effect, over 3,000 cases have been filed in courts.
A former staffer of Mr. Cuomo, who accused him of groping her in 2021, filed a case against him on Nov. 22 to the Albany County Clerk. Her criminal case from 2022 was dropped by prosecutors. The former governor resigned in 2021 after nearly a dozen women accused him of sexual harassment.
Mr. Cuomo’s attorney, Rita Glavin, has denied the allegations, calling them “provably false” and said they would be fighting them in court.
A woman sued Mr. Adams claiming he assaulted her in 1993 when they worked for New York City together.
Mr. Adams, through a spokesperson, denied the allegations.
In his post, Mr. Trump mentioned his own sexual misconduct cases. Earlier this year a New York Jury found the former president liable for battery and defamation after E. Jean Carroll accused him of raping her in a department store dressing room in the mid 1990s. She was awarded $5 million.
“I got sued, decades later (she has no idea when her made up event took place!), by a woman — I HAD NO IDEA WHO SHE WAS. It was a made up fairytale that was brought and funded by political operatives for purposes of Election Interference,” he wrote.
