NextImg:Trump says yes to King Charles’ invitation for state visit to Britain

President Trump on Thursday accepted an invitation from King Charles for an unprecedented second state visit to the United Kingdom.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer handed Mr. Trump the written invitation in the Oval Office during their bilateral meeting.

“Well, that’s really nice,” Mr. Trump said of the invite, calling King Charles “a beautiful man, a wonderful man.”

No date for the visit was announced.

This will make Mr. Trump the first elected political leader in modern times to be hosted for two state visits by a British monarch.

“This is really special. This has never happened before. This is unprecedented, and I think it just symbolizes the relationship between us,” Mr. Starmer said.

The late Queen Elizabeth welcomed Mr. Trump for a three-day visit in June 2019 during his first term in office. He spent his time there attending a state banquet and private lunch with the queen.

Only three U.S. presidents were afforded official state visits to Great Britain during Queen Elizabeth’s record 70 years on the throne. Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama were also invited for state visits.
