NextImg:Trump says GOP is unified behind him after Haley announcement

Former President Donald Trump said the Republican Party is unified behind him, after his former primary rival Nikki Haley announced she will vote for him in November.

“It’s come together for a long time. You have to understand, we did the nomination process the fastest in history,” Mr. Trump said during an interview with Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends” before a campaign rally in the South Bronx.

“If somebody else were running, they’d still be running for another month in order to get the nomination. We did it two months ago,” Mr. Trump said. “I believe the party is together. I appreciate what [Ms. Haley] said. The party is together, and I think we’re going to have a tremendous victory.”

Mr. Trump welcomed the news about Ms. Haley, saying that he believed she would join his team.

“I was heartened by her announcement,” he told News 12.

Many Republican moderates and independents favored Ms. Haley over Mr. Trump, and political consultants have suggested that the presumptive Republican nominee needs to court her supporters to bring them into the GOP camp.

However, the Biden campaign wants Ms. Haley’s primary voters, too.

According to CNN, the Biden camp spoke with Haley supporters in different states over a Zoom call just hours after she announced her plans to vote for Mr. Trump.

The outlet reported that the meeting is part of the campaign’s effort to attract Ms. Haley’s voting coalition, the Haley Voters Working Group.

Voters on the call came from Virginia, Massachusetts, Vermont, California, Florida, Georgia, Arizona and North Carolina.

It also included members of Ms. Haley’s former state leadership teams and the organization Women for Nikki.
