NextImg:Trump says Biden autopen is bigger scandal than Epstein files

President Trump said people should be focusing on former President Biden’s use of the autopen, rather than the secret files of Jeffrey Epstein.

Mr. Trump said Wednesday that he thought the use of the autopen by the Biden administration is “the biggest scandal.”

“That’s the scandal they should be talking about, not Jeffrey Epstein,” Mr. Trump told reporters while meeting with the Crown Prince of Bahrain in the Oval Office. “The scandal you should be talking about is the autopen because I think it’s the biggest scandal, one of them, in American history.”

Mr. Trump has continuously railed against the use of the autopen during the Biden administration, saying aides acted on Mr. Biden’s behalf by using mechanical signatures on important documents such as executive orders and pardons.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is investigating the alleged coverup of Mr. Biden’s mental decline while in office, including the purported use of the autopen without his knowledge.

Mr. Trump has argued that it’s clear Mr. Biden was not in charge for the full four years of his administration, saying Mr. Biden would not have left the border open to millions of illegal immigrants.

Anthony Bernal, a former aide to Mr. Biden and first lady Jill Biden, refused to answer questions from House lawmakers Wednesday investigating the alleged cover-up of Mr. Biden’s mental decline, invoking his Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination.

The Trump administration is facing heat over the documents pertaining to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a onetime friend of Mr. Trump. The public was eager to see the Epstein files that allegedly included a “client list” of people who allegedly participated in sex with underage girls.

The administration has faced backlash from Democrats and its own supporters over the reversal on disclosing the files, with many of them demanding the files to be released.

A memo from the Justice Department and FBI last week said the review of the files showed no client list, even though Attorney General Pam Bondi had previously said Epstein’s client list was on her desk and ready to be reviewed. She later said her comments were taken out of context.

Mr. Trump has criticized the attention that the Epstein file situation has received, including raging at a reporter who asked about them and calling for his supporters to forget about the files.

In a Truth Social post earlier Wednesday, Mr. Trump dismissed the files as a “scam” and said the Democrats are the ones perpetuating the furor surrounding them.
