President Trump posted Friday on Truth Social a 2017 video clip of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh talking about former FBI Director James B. Comey’s admission that he was once a communist.

Limbaugh, who died in 2021, was telling his audience about a 2003 New York magazine interview where Mr. Comey discussed the issue.

“How many of you have thought, I mean, if you’ve thought about it, how many of you have heard or thought that James Comey was a lifelong Republican?” Limbaugh asked.

“I have. I’ve always thought that James Comey was a lifelong Republican. I’ve been told that James Comey is a lifelong Republican. Turns out not to be true,” he said.

“Are you aware James Comey used to be a communist?”

He continued, “In a 2003 interview with New York magazine, James Comey said before voting for Jimmy Carter in 1980 he’d been a communist. He admitted, ‘I’d moved from communist to whatever I am now.’”

Limbaugh also referenced John O. Brennan, President Obama’s CIA director, who voted for Communist Party USA presidential candidate Gus Hall in 1976 when he was a college student.

“Now we know that John Brennan, Obama’s CIA director, was a communist, or at least had voted for the Communist Party, but I had never heard this about Comey,” he said.

“Now we find out that under Obama, the CIA director and the FBI director both had histories of not just a flirtation, but serious immersion into communism. And like the KGB always says, no one ever leaves the KGB. Nobody ever leaves this way of thinking.”

Mr. Brennan made his public admission about his vote during a panel discussion at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s annual conference in 2016, when he talked about taking a polygraph test while applying at the CIA.

Mr. Comey, who briefly served under Mr. Trump during his first term after his tenure under Mr. Obama, recently pleaded not guilty to charges of lying to Congress and obstructing a congressional investigation.

Mr. Comey, the most prominent person in the Trump resistance to face charges, is accused of perjury and obstruction based on Senate testimony five years ago.

A federal grand jury handed up the indictment last month, just days before the statute of limitations expired.

Mr. Brennan is under criminal investigation by the FBI over possible misconduct related to the Trump–Russia investigation.

The probe on Mr. Brennan was launched in July after CIA Director John Ratcliffe sent evidence of wrongdoing by Mr. Brennan to FBI Director Kash Patel for investigation and potential prosecution.
