NextImg:Trump order calls for agencies to run regulations past DOGE

President Trump signed an executive order Wednesday calling for agency heads to work with the Department of Government Efficiency to review all regulations as a way to continue his ongoing effort to make the government more efficient.

The fact sheet of the order says it will “end Federal overreach in regulation and enforcement and restore the constitutional separation of powers.”

It calls for agency heads to work with Elon Musk’s DOGE and the Office of Management and Budget to review regulations, with emphasis on those that are cost heavy.

Any regulations that aren’t in line with the Trump administration policy will be rescinded or modified, including those determined to be based on “unlawful delegations of legislative power,” that inflict costs on private parties that don’t also benefit the public, that harm national security interests, and other criteria.

It also says agencies should use discretion and “deprioritize enforcement actions” that go beyond the powers given to the federal government in the Constitution.

Functions regarding the military, national security, homeland security, foreign affairs and immigration are exempt from the regulation review.

The order says that agency heads should work with OMB, the DOGE team and the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs before adding any new regulations that may be needed.
