Former President Donald Trump said he would welcome his former primary rival Nikki Haley on his team after she announced she would vote for him in November.

“I believe she will join our team, as we share many common ideas and perspectives. I was heartened by her announcement,” Mr. Trump shared with News 12, moments before addressing a crowd of 25,000 supporters at a rally Thursday in the South Bronx.

“We had a nasty campaign, but she’s a very capable person, and I’m sure she’s going to be on our team in some form — absolutely.” Mr. Trump did not specify Ms. Haley’s potential future role.

Ms. Haley, a former governor of South Carolina, served in the first Trump administration as U.S. ambassador to the U.N.

Mr. Trump and Ms. Haley engaged in a brutal GOP primary fight in which Mr. Trump nicknamed her “birdbrain,” and she called him “unhinged.”

In the TV interview, Mr. Trump did not say who his top three picks for a running mate on the Republican presidential ticket, but promised to announce his V.P. pick in July at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Ms. Haley said on Wednesday that she would vote for Mr. Trump, offering a fig leaf to her former boss and presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

“Trump has not been perfect on these policies. I’ve made that clear many, many times. But Biden has been a catastrophe,” Ms. Haley said in a speech at the Hudson Institute in Washington.

She said she is focused on electing a president who will secure the border, support capitalism and freedom, and support the nation’s allies abroad.

Many Republican moderates and independents favored Ms. Haley as an alternative to Mr. Trump. Although GOP donors kept her afloat in the primary, she failed to win any states, including her home state of South Carolina.
