President-elect Donald Trump has tapped lawyer and Trump loyalist Harmeet Dhillon, a former top official of the California Republican Party, to be assistant attorney general for civil rights at the Justice Department.

In a statement on Truth Social, Mr. Trump said Ms. Dhillon “has stood up consistently to protect our cherished Civil Liberties, including taking on Big Tech for censoring our Free Speech, representing Christians who were prevented from praying together during COVID, and suing corporations who use woke policies to discriminate against their workers.”

Harmeet is one of the top Election lawyers in the Country, fighting to ensure that all, and ONLY, legal votes are counted,” Mr. Trump said.

He said in the role at Justice, she will “be a tireless defender of our Constitutional Rights, and will enforce our Civil Rights and Election Laws FAIRLY and FIRMLY.”

Ahead of the election, the Trump campaign, Republican National Committee and Arizona GOP brought on Ms. Dhillon to run an election integrity team with the goal of stopping election interference and securing the swing states votes.

She previously served as the vice chair of the California Republican Party and ran unsuccessfully against Ronna McDaniel for head of the RNC. During the pandemic, she filed several lawsuits challenging mask requirements and stay-at-home orders.

In an X post, Ms. Dhillon said she is “extremely honored by President Trump’s nomination to assist with our nation’s civil rights agenda.”

“It has been my dream to be able to serve our great country, and I am so excited to be part of an incredible team of lawyers led by @PamBondi. I cannot wait to get to work!”

She thanked her family for their support of her career. A native of India, Ms. Dhillon was born into a Sikh family and offered a Sikh prayer at the Republican National Convention this year.
