President-elect Donald Trump named three Hollywood legends as “special ambassadors” to boost investment in the American film industry.

Actors Jon Voight, Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone will serve as “special ambassadors” to Hollywood, which Mr. Trump described as a “great, but troubled place.”

“They will serve as special envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to foreign countries, back — bigger, better and stronger than ever before,” Mr. Trump wrote on social media.

“These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears and I will get done what they suggest. It will be like the United States of America itself, the Golden Age of Hollywood,” Mr. Trump said.

The move comes as Los Angeles is battling raging wildfires that have killed at least 25 people and halted the production of some television and movies being filmed in America’s entertainment capital.

Several major actors, writers and musicians have lost their homes in the fires, which have damaged the city’s Pacific Palisades and Altadena neighborhoods. Mr. Trump has blamed California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, for worsening the crisis by mishandling forest management and water resources.

Mr. Trump also has long been interested in the entertainment business. Before running for president, he was a reality TV star and did cameos in several movies. He picked his former producer from “The Apprentice,” Mark Burnett, to serve as ambassador to the United Kingdom, and several of his Cabinet choices are TV celebrities with little or no government experience.

Mr. Stallone, Mr. Gibson and Mr. Vought have been vocal Trump supporters over the years.

At the America First Policy Institute Gala in November, Mr. Stallone of “Rocky” fame introduced Mr. Trump as “the second George Washington.”

“We are in the presence of a really mythical character. Nobody in the world could have pulled off what he pulled off, so I’m awe,” Mr. Stallone said.

Mr. Gibson, who won Oscars for “Braveheart,” made it clear to TMZ earlier this year that he planned to vote for Mr. Trump, saying his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, had “a miserable track record,” “no policies to speak of” and the “IQ of a fence post.”

Mr. Voight, who won an Oscar for “Coming Home,” once declared Mr. Trump to be “greatest president since Abraham Lincoln.”

“Don’t be fooled by the political left because we are the people of this nation that is witnessing triumph,” Mr. Voight wrote on X in 2019. “So let us stand with our president, let us stand for this truth that President Trump is the greatest president since Abraham Lincoln. God bless America.”
