The website for President Trump’s $5 million immigration gold card went live so people could sign up for when the card is ready.
“For five million dollars, the Trump card is coming!” a post on Truth Social said Wednesday in all caps.
“Thousands have been calling and asking how they can sign up to ride a beautiful road in gaining access to the Greatest Country and Market anywhere in the World. It’s called THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!” the post said.
Mr. Trump announced the gold card initiative in February, saying it would cost $5 million and bring wealthy and successful people to America, where “they’ll be spending a lot of money and paying a lot of taxes and employing a lot of people.”
The website, trumpcard.gov, says, “The Trump Card is Coming,” and prompts people to enter their first and last name, what region they’re from, if they’re interested as an individual or a business and whether it’s for themselves or their family.
It also features a picture of the card, with a picture of Mr. Trump with the Statue of Liberty behind him and an eagle in front of him. It says the United States of America at the top and The Trump Card on the right with his signature underneath.
The idea is for the card to replace the EB-5 program, also known as the Golden Visa, which lets foreigners obtain a green card if they invest a certain amount of money that creates at least 10 jobs. Mr. Trump said the new card will stand as a pathway to citizenship and exempt investors from taxes on foreign incomes.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has said the card is for those “who can help America pay off its debt.”
Invest in the USA, a membership-based not-for-profit industry trade association for the EB-5 Regional Center Program, applauded the website launch and Mr. Trump’s “continued focus on investment-based immigration, which has a long record of success.”
“For over 35 years, the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program has delivered billions in foreign direct investment and created millions of American jobs — all at no cost to taxpayers,” Executive Director Aaron Grau said in a statement.
He cited a recent economic impact study from IIUSA that found that from 2016 to 2019, the program generated $184 billion in economic activity and supported 7 million jobs across the U.S.
“The EB-5 Visa is a proven model demonstrating how immigration policy can strengthen the U.S. economy,” he said.
