NextImg:Trump, Kennedy to participate in X town halls

Elon Musk’s X will host two presidential town halls with former President Donald Trump and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The two events will reportedly be a partnership with cable news channel NewsNation, though no moderators or date have been announced. Along with people in the audience, X users will ask the candidates questions.

During a NewsNation interview on Wednesday, Mr. Kennedy confirmed his plans to attend the town halls. Mr. Trump has yet to mention the events.

The town halls come as X and Mr. Musk continue to flirt with presidential politics on the platform. After taking over the site in late 2022, he hosted the virtual launch of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign.

Mr. Musk gained further support from conservatives on the platform when he reinstated the accounts of several voices on the right, including Mr. Trump.

However, the former president hasn’t returned to X, formerly Twitter, opting to stay almost exclusively on Truth Social, in which he holds a 60% stake. Still, the Trump-Musk relationship has heated up, with the two reportedly speaking several times a month on the phone. Mr. Trump is also considering a possible advisory position for Mr. Musk if he retakes the White House in November.

The future town halls are a massive step forward in the platform’s multimedia efforts, which began in earnest after Mr. Musk stepped down as CEO last year. On top of securing exclusive video deals with popular conservative voices like Tucker Carlson and Tulsi Gabbard, the platform has expanded its deals with the NFL and the PGA Tour.
