President Trump on Sunday signed a Gulf of America Day proclamation as he flew over the body of water that the rest of the world still calls the Gulf of Mexico.
Mr. Trump inked the proclamation on his way to the Super Bowl in New Orleans, which sits on the gulf, and weeks after signing an executive order to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
“We are flying right over it right now,” Mr. Trump said, sitting aboard Air Force One with a pen in his hand. “So we thought this would be appropriate.”
Mr. Trump said the signing event was “even bigger than the Super Bowl” and that most everyone accepted his change.
The pilot then declared on the loudspeaker that “Air Force One is currently in international waters, for the first time in history, flying over the recently renamed Gulf of America.”
Mr. Trump gushed, “He did that well.”
