NextImg:Trump incarceration ‘obviously doable,’ ex-FBI Director James Comey says: ‘Put him in a double wide’

Jailing a former president might seem impractical on a number of fronts.

James Comey thinks it isn’t.

The former FBI director dissented when asked by host Jen Psaki in an interview on MSNBC whether “it would be difficult or nearly impossible for the law enforcement institutions to put him in an actual jail?”

“No,” Mr. Comey said flatly. “It’s obviously doable.”

Mr. Comey, whom Mr. Trump fired from his job for having spied on his campaign, explained that high-profile convicts are routinely segregated.

“They would just put him in a double wide — somewhere out near the fence, out in the grass. And he would eat there. He’d shower there, he’d exercise there, he’d be away … from general population,” he said.

However, Mr. Comey said that “it seems unlikely” that matters would come to that. Even assuming appeals and the political processes come to nothing, Mr. Trump is the sort of first-time non-violent offender for whom jail is the last option, not the first.

“But,” Mr. Comey added, “I’ve never seen a defendant beg for it more by attacking the judge, attacking the jury, attacking the witnesses.

“One of the key things in assessing what sentence is appropriate … a judge looks at, ‘So, are you sorry for what you did’ or ’are you respecting the system?’” Mr. Comey explained. “This defendant is running the other way.”
