President Trump said he doesn’t care if Congress gets his top priorities passed through multiple reconciliation bills instead of one as long as it gets done.
Mr. Trump sat down for his first Oval Office interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity Wednesday night where he was asked about the reconciliation bill.
“I don’t care as long as we get to the final answer,” Mr. Trump said. “I like the concept of the one bill.”
Mr. Trump has previously advocated for “one big, beautiful bill” to get the government funded and get his top priorities taken care of.
“It could be something else,” he said. “It could be a smaller bill and a big bill, but as long as we get to the right answer.”
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Louisiana Republican, said Tuesday that Republicans have landed on a bill approach.
Mr. Trump has played a role in Congress’s spending bills before he even took office — tanking a bipartisan bill in December that almost led to a government shutdown.
At the 11th hour, Congress passed a stopgap measure to keep the government funded until March 14.
The president enjoys full Republican control of Congress but only has a small majority in the House, which could still prove difficult to pass spending bills.
In the interview, he also said “Los Angeles has changed everything,” when it comes to funding because California is going to need a lot of money to recuperate from the disastrous wildfires that swept through the Los Angeles area.
