Former President Donald Trump is dominating the dash for cash in the 2024 GOP presidential primary in much the way he’s towering in the polls.
The latest filings from the official campaign committees show a field of non-Trump GOP presidential contenders duking it out for second place on the fundraising front. Others are inching toward death watch —including former Vice President Mike Pence.
The official Trump campaign committee raised $24.5 million in the three-month period from July through the end of September.
Trumpworld says the total haul grows to $45.5 million when including donations to his Save America political action committee.
The PAC started October with nearly $38 million in the bank.
Meanwhile, President Biden is raking in the cash, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is flashing his fundraising chops.
Mr. Biden’s campaign committee pulled in close to $25 million.
The Biden camp says the tally climbs to $71 million when donations to the Democratic National Committee and three joint fundraising groups are lumped in.
Mr. Kennedy, who recently dumped the Democrats to run as an independent, raised an impressive $8.7 million and had over $6 million in his official campaign account.
No one has been able to stand toe-to-toe with Mr. Trump in the GOP field.
The former president has three times as much cash on hand in his official campaign account as his closest financial rival, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida.
Mr. Trump’s balance sheet reflects the support he has received in the wake of various legal challenges.
For his part, Mr. DeSantis’ campaign raked in more than $11 million and spent about as much over the same period.
He’s betting on a strong performance in the Jan. 15 Iowa caucuses.
Mr. DeSantis closed out last month with $12.3 million.
Nikki Haley is polling third behind Mr. DeSantis in Iowa, but she has sprinted past him in New Hampshire, moving into a distant second behind Mr. Trump. The former South Carolina governor received a bounce out of the first two debates, which Mr. Trump skipped, and the crowds at her events have grown.
Ms. Haley raised $8.2 million and had $11.6 million in the bank after spending $3.5 million.
Vivek Ramaswamy, a multimillionaire former biotech executive, blew through over $12 million from June to September. He pulled in $7.4 million, leaving him with over $4 million in the bank.
Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina also burned through more money than he raised.
He spent over $12 million and raised over $4.6 million. His official campaign has $13.3 million cash on hand.
Some of the numbers are a bit deceiving.
North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, for instance, pulled in $4.3 million, but that tally includes $2 million he loaned his campaign.
Mr. Pence, meanwhile, raised about as much as he spent, pulling in $3.4 million. He had just over $1.1 million in the bank.
Former New Jersey Chris Christie had $3.9 million in his account after raising a similar amount in the past three months.
Businessman Perry Johnson has largely self-funded his dark horse bid. He had over $1 million in the bank after loaning his campaign $4 million.
Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson had $325,287 in the bank, giving him a slight edge over independent candidate Cornel West, who had just over $100,000.
