Trump golf course gunman found guilty on all charges, tries to stab neck with pen after verdict read

A Florida jury on Tuesday found Ryan Routh guilty of attempting to assassinate President Trump as he played on his West Palm Beach golf course two months before the 2024 election.
Routh, 58, faces life in prison. He attempted to stab himself in the neck with a pen upon hearing the verdict.
He was dragged out of the courtroom and then returned by marshals who restrained him. His daughter yelled out to him not to harm himself, according to reports.
The jury deliberated for just a few hours before finding Routh guilty of the assassination attempt and a slew of other charges, including assault on a federal officer, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
The verdict followed a two-week trial in which Routh, representing himself, was reprimanded repeatedly by Judge Aileen Cannon for veering into bizarre lines of questioning.
Prosecutors told jurors that Routh “wanted Donald Trump dead,” and was “just one bullet away” from assassinating a major presidential candidate.
In a statement following the verdict, Attorney General Pam Bondi praised the Justice Department and said Routh’s attempt to kill Mr. Trump “was not only an attack on our president, but an affront to our very nation itself.”
