Trump contemplates alteration to term limits, with at least one House Republican already backing him

President Trump cheekily mentioned running for a third term while speaking to House Republicans at their annual retreat Monday, saying he’s raised lots of money.
“I’ve raised a lot of money for the next race that I assume I can’t use for myself, but I’m not 100% sure,” Mr. Trump said. “Because I don’t know, I think I’m not allowed to run again.”
“Am I allowed to run again?” Mr. Trump mused, directing the conversation to Speaker Mike Johnson, Louisiana Republican, who introduced Mr. Trump to the stage. “Mike, I better not get you involved in that.”
The Constitution only allows for a president to serve two terms, so in order for him to be able to run for a third term, a constitutional amendment is needed.
Rep. Andy Ogles, Tennessee Republican, introduced a resolution last week to allow Mr. Trump to run for a third term.
In a statement Mr. Ogles said Mr. Trump “has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness, and he must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal.”
In his speech Monday, Mr. Trump predicted the House GOP will expand its majority in 2026 and if they do, a “governing coalition” could be formed to pass his agenda.
