President Trump heaped praise on the Supreme Court Friday, thanking the justices for a “monumental” ruling that limits the power of lower court judges to issue universal blockades on his executive actions.

“This brings back the Constitution,” Mr. Trump said at the White House, adding that “there are people elated all over the country.”

He called the injunctions a “grave threat to democracy,” saying individual judges used injunctions to tie up presidential powers for years.

“I’m grateful to the Supreme Court for stepping in and solving this very big, complex problem,” the president said.

He had particular praise for Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who wrote the majority opinion in the 6-3 ruling. She was Mr. Trump’s last appointee to the high court in his first term but has been facing growing complaints among some conservative legal scholars and the MAGA movement.

“I just have great respect for her,” Mr. Trump said. “Her decision was brilliantly written today, from all accounts.”

Justice Barrett, in her opinion, said universal injunctions had threatened to create an “imperial judiciary.”

He also praised the court for another ruling Friday that blocked a policy in Montgomery County, Maryland, imposing a pro-LGBT storybook curriculum on public school students without letting parents opt out.

Mr. Trump said the parents deserved the court’s decision.

“They lost control of these schools, they lost control of their child,” he said.
