Former President Donald Trump has dished out another nickname, this time to E. Jean Carroll, who was recently awarded nearly $83 million in her defamation case against the former president.

Mr. Trump reluctantly posted a bond of nearly $92 million Friday while the appellate courts consider his appeal, even though he had attempted to delay the payment. A bond is usually more money than the judgment amount.

“If I didn’t win on appeal on these ridiculous decisions, if I didn’t win on appeal is the most ridiculous decisions and putting the Miss Bergdorf Goodman, a person I never – I never met, I have no idea who she is,” Mr. Trump said Monday on CNBC’s “Squak Box.”

“Except one thing. I got sued. From that point on I said, Wow, that’s crazy. What this is. I got charged. I was given a false accusation and had to post a $91 million bond on a false accusation,” he said.

A federal jury in January found Mr. Trump guilty of defaming Ms. Carroll, a magazine columnist, after she went public in 2019 with claims that Mr. Trump raped her in a New York department store — Bergdorf Goodman — in 1996.

The former president denied the claim, saying she wasn’t his type and that she was trying to sell some books.

A previous jury, which found Mr. Trump liable for sexual assault but not rape, awarded Ms. Carroll $5 million for other comments he made.
