A transgender migrant wanted for deportation was charged last week with raping a 14-year-old boy in New York City.
Nicol Suarez, a 30-year-old Colombian man who identifies as a woman, preyed on the boy in a bodega bathroom near Thomas Jefferson Park in East Harlem, according to police sources who spoke with the New York Post.
The boy fled the attack and ran for help, resulting in Suarez’s arrest a day later.
The Post reported that Suarez was wanted on separate criminal charges in Massachusetts and New Jersey at the time of the attack, and the U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement had submitted a detainer to take custody of the illegal immigrant.
It was not clear what charges Suarez was facing in the other two states.
Both states, however, have sanctuary laws that severely limit cooperation with federal immigration officers and deportation requests.
New York prosecutors sought for a $500,000 bail and $1.5 million bond during Suarez’s initial court hearing last week, but Judge Elizabeth Shamahs instead opted for a $100,000 bail or $250,000 bond.
