The three most vulnerable Democratic incumbent senators are reportedly skipping the party’s convention next week.

According to CBS News, Democratic Sens. Jon Tester of Montana, Jacky Rosen of Nevada and Sherrod Brown of Ohio will be absent from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Citing “sources familiar with the matter,” the network said all three will be campaigning in their home states instead of attending the nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as the party’s standard bearers.

Control of the Senate may turn on these three races. The Democrats currently hold a 51-49 edge in the Senate, but Republicans only are defending 11 seats and none are considered vulnerable by political handicappers.

With West Virginia widely expected to go from Democrat to Republican in November with the retirement of Joe Manchin III, the GOP likely only needs to flip one other seat to control the chamber, regardless of who wins the presidency.

The Cook Political Report rates both the Montana and Ohio races as toss-ups, and the Nevada race as only “lean Democratic.”

Ohio and Montana both were won by former President Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020 and Republicans generally dominate the states.

Ms. Rosen and Mr. Brown have endorsed the Harris-Walz ticket, though Mr. Tester has not.
