Police in Texas said Friday that they found the abandoned truck of a murder suspect near the U.S.-Mexico border, three days after the man was accused of stabbing his wife to death in their home near Dallas.
Balch Springs police said Luis Pardo may have fled into Mexico after his truck was found unoccupied Friday in El Paso.
Mr. Pardo, who is not an American citizen, has family in Zacatecas, Mexico, according to police.
He is the lone suspect in Tuesday’s fatal stabbing that left his wife, Hilda Gurrola, dead inside their home in the Dallas suburbs.
Family members told local Fox affiliate KDFW that Ms. Gurrola was moving out of the home that day as she sought to end her 14-year marriage.
Ms. Gurrola’s sister, who joined her on the trip to her old home, said Mr. Pardo kept summoning the victim back into the house to grab more belongings. That’s when the family said Mr. Pardo attacked his wife.
“She got frustrated because he kept telling her, ‘Hey come inside and get your shoes. Come inside and get the shoes.’” Gricelda Gurrola Llanas, the victim’s sister, told KDFW. “She went inside and got the shoes and, unfortunately, he pulled her in between the washer and dryer that’s located in their kitchen. And between the washer and dryer he just pushed her back and started stabbing her to death.”
Police said Ms. Gurrola was stabbed 14 times during the deadly incident.
Ms. Llanas said her other sister tried to stop the attack while inside the home, but Mr. Pardo continued with the stabbing and fled the scene afterward.
The couple had three children together — two daughters, ages 12 and 10, and a three-year-old son. The family said the toddler son witnessed the attack.
