A McKinney, Texas, man is facing murder charges after police went to his house to perform a welfare check and found his wife dead in a closet.
McKinney Police Department officers went to the home of Eslam Mohamed, 42, at around 6 p.m. local time Friday after overseas relatives asked them to perform a welfare check; they were worried he had suffered a medical emergency.
McKinney Fire Department personnel got to the house first, forcibly entered and found Mr. Mohamed sitting on a couch with minor injuries and blood on his hands, the police said in a release Saturday.
Mr. Mohamed told the responders that there was a woman in a closet elsewhere in the home, and the fire department personnel found Mr. Mohamed’s wife, Kubra Zafer, 40, dead from a stab wound to the neck. They also found a knife nearby, the police said.
The fire department then waited for the police to arrive. Once they did, Mr. Mohamed was taken for medical treatment and was then taken into police custody.
Mr. Mohamed is charged with the murder of Ms. Zafer. He remains in custody in the Collin County Jail on a bond of $1 million, according to jail records.
The McKinney Police Department said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
