Police in Middle Tennessee said a grand jury indicted a criminal defense lawyer last week on charges that she deleted child pornography from her client’s phone.
Hendersonville police said attorney Jocelyn Mims was indicted Wednesday on charges of tampering with evidence, making false reports to an officer and intentionally failing to report child sex abuse when she scrubbed the pornographic images from her client’s cellphone.
Ms. Mims was being held in Sumner County Jail on an $80,000 bond.
Her client, who wasn’t identified, is facing several felony charges. Ms. Mims was first retained by the client in 2021.
Ms. Mims was previously disbarred after pleading guilty in 2008 for trying to smuggle drugs to a client in the Gallatin jail, according to The Tennessean. An arrest report from the incident said Ms. Mims tried sneaking in Xanax and marijuana to an inmate whom she was having an affair with.
Ms. Mims had her law license reinstated in 2017.
