The teenager accused of mowing down a cyclist in Las Vegas last month boasted to officers that he would only get a “slap on the wrist” for the deadly incident.

Jesus Ayala, 18, told officers he would be out of jail in a month after he was taken into custody Aug. 14, according to an arrest report from the Las Vegas police.

“You think this juvenile s— is gonna do some s—? I’ll be out in 30 days. I’ll bet you,” said Mr. Ayala, who was 17 at the time of his arrest, according to the report.

When an officer told the suspect he could be charged as an adult due to the grave injuries suffered by 64-year-old Andreas Probst, the then-juvenile replied “It’s just ah, f—ing ah hit-and-run. Slap on the wrist.”

Probst, a retired police chief who ran the department in Bell, California, eventually died at a hospital.

Mr. Ayala and passenger Jzamir Keys, 16, are both facing murder charges as adults after Mr. Keys was arrested last week.

“The behavior exhibited by Defendants Ayala and Keys is outrageous and cannot be tolerated in this community,” Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said in a statement earlier this week. “People riding bicycles should feel safe and secure and should not be subjected to criminals who put their lives at risk. Justice will be served.”

Both suspects had court hearings Tuesday, where they were ordered to remain behind bars pending their preliminary hearings.

Authorities said the pair were in the midst of a crime spree when they recorded themselves intentionally striking and killing Probst.

One of the teens can be heard saying, “Ready?” The other egged on the ramming by saying, “Hit his a—.”

The driver then sped behind Probst and slammed into the cyclist, causing the victim to roll over the top of the car and land on the pavement. Police said Probst was thrown about 96 feet from his bicycle.

The video shows Probst lying lifeless on the ground as the two drive away. One of them says, “He’s knocked out,” and the other replies, “Oh s—-, we gotta get out of here.”

Police said Mr. Keys was driving the car earlier in the day when he struck a 72-year-old man. That victim survived the crash.

The teens also were accused of stealing four cars that day.

The 50-second clip shows the suspects intentionally crashing into another car during their videotaped spree.
