A fiery tanker truck crash killed its driver after going over the side of a bridge Saturday in Northfield Center Township, Ohio.
The driver was going northbound on Ohio State Route 8, trying to get onto Interstate 271, when the truck went over the side of a bridge on the ramp at 9:15 a.m., the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
The driver, unidentified by the sheriff’s office, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The state highway’s I-271 ramp was shut down for the area’s safety, the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities didn’t say how much diesel fuel was spilled by the crashed tanker, but a hazardous material team arrived on the scene. A local creek also caught fire, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.
No other injuries or damage to other vehicles were reported as a result of the crash.
