NextImg:Sweden to provide another $1.2 billion in military aid to Ukraine

Sweden will provide Ukraine with an additional $1.2 billion in weapons and equipment funding for its war with Russia, bringing the Scandinavian country’s total contribution to $5.6 billion.

According to an announcement Thursday, Sweden will provide Kyiv with $90 million to produce long-range drones and missiles. The package will also include 146 trucks, 1500 TOW anti-tank missiles, 200 AT4 anti-tank weapons, and additional infantry equipment.

Additional donations from stocks will account for $294 million of the aid package.

Sweden also provided Ukraine with around $540 million to purchase newly manufactured arms and equipment from Sweden and other countries. According to the Swedish government, the funds can be directed to meet operational priorities like long-range drones and artillery.

“Being able to support Ukraine with newly produced equipment that can be delivered in a short time is an important tool to complement donations of equipment from the Swedish Armed Forces’ war organization,” the Swedish government wrote in a statement. “At the same time that Ukrainian units receive the equipment they need, Ukrainian, Swedish and European security of supply is also strengthened.”

The package also allocates $71 million for repairs to equipment already provided to Ukraine by the Swedish military. The funding will go to repair Swedish combat vehicles, tanks and artillery.

The package solidifies Sweden as one of the strongest and most consistent patrons of Ukraine’s military. Sweden currently ranks sixth in total material support for Ukraine, according to the Ukraine Support Tracker.
