NextImg:Surprise! Unknowingly pregnant woman gives birth at Burning Man festival in Nevada

A woman attending the 2025 Burning Man festival in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert gave birth while there, saying that she had been unaware she was pregnant.

The festival ran from Aug. 24 through Monday. New father Kasey Thompson, 39, and his wife, Kayla Thompson, 37, were in their recreational vehicle early Wednesday when she went into labor.

“It’s an absolute miracle. Had I known [about the pregnancy], that’s the absolutely last place on this planet I would have been,” Mr. Thompson told the Los Angeles Times.

There were supposedly no signs that Ms. Thompson was expecting.

“Even the nurses at the hospital were like, ’You don’t look like you were pregnant at all. I didn’t have any symptoms,” Ms. Thompson told The Salt Lake Tribune.

Medical professionals attending the festival came to assist the new parents, and the baby was airlifted to a Reno hospital while Mr. and Ms. Thompson went via ground ambulance, reported the newspaper.

Mr. Thompson’s sister Lacey Paxman told Oakland, California’s KTVU-TV that “he said, you know, it was the hardest decision he had to make because he knew he couldn’t get on the flight with the baby, but the ambulance had to leave before the flight was able to take off.”

The baby girl, Aurora, came into the world 16.5 inches long and weighing 3 pounds and 9.6 ounces, according to a GoFundMe posted by Ms. Paxman. Aurora is staying in neonatal intensive care unit.

Mr. Thompson told the L.A. Times that doctors think Aurora was about a month premature of her due date.

A spokesperson for the festival told the San Francisco Chronicle that “of all the things we celebrate at Burning Man, bringing life, connection, transformation and joy are dearest to our hearts.”
