A student at Bentley University in Massachusetts died on the school’s senior trip to the Bahamas after falling from a balcony.
At about 10 p.m. Sunday, the student was in a hotel room with others when he fell from an upper-level balcony. He was found unresponsive on a lower floor and was taken for medical treatment, but he died on the way to the hospital, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said in a release.
While police left the victim unnamed, the school has identified him as Gaurav Jaisingh, 21, from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Authorities have determined the fall was accidental, Bentley Public Relations Director Helen Heinrichs told The Boston Globe.
“Our hearts go out to Gaurav’s family and friends,” the school said on social media. “Gaurav was set to walk across the stage this weekend with his classmates at graduation. An incredible person and a valuable contributor to the Bentley community in countless ways, he will be missed. Our community plans to honor and remember Gaurav at the undergraduate commencement ceremony on Saturday.”
His parents, Sneh and Ajay Jaisingh, will walk the stage in his place, family friend Jharna Madan told the Globe.
