A single-engine plane made an emergency landing on a Cape Coral, Florida, residential street Saturday after possible engine trouble.

The pilot was the only person on board and was uninjured. He reported possible engine failure as the reason for landing at 10 a.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

The unidentified pilot took off from Pine Shadows Airpark in North Fort Myers shortly before the incident, the Cape Coral Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

The plane couldn’t make it to 1,500 feet, and the pilot tried to land on the roadway, CCFD Battalion Chief Jason Orellana told local Fox station WFTX-TV.

The plane’s landing gear retracted, causing a hard landing and the spillage of fuel, but no homes, cars or power lines were hit, authorities said.

Foam was sprayed on and near the aircraft as a precaution, but no fires broke out, CCFD said.

An image posted by the fire department shows the plane’s registration number N282SV, which is registered to a private North Fort Myers citizen, per FAA records.

Tracking website FlightAware shows that the plane left the airport at 9:56 a.m. before the landing.

The FAA is investigating the incident. A section of the local Vogiantzis Parkway has been closed down until further notice, fire officials said.
