A skydiving plane carrying 15 people went off the end of the runway at Cross Keys Airport in New Jersey, causing multiple injuries.
The plane went off the Monroe Township runway at around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The plane was operated by Skydive Cross Keys.
At around 3,000 feet, the single-engine plane started having engine troubles according to The Associated Press, which led the pilot, unnamed publicly, to try to make an emergency landing at the Cross Keys Airport.
The pilot was unable to get the plane stopped upon getting to the ground, resulting in the crash. Afterwards, first responders arrived and provided medical care, and helped clean jet fuel off of the injured in order to decontaminate them, according to Philadelphia’s WPVI-TV.
Eight people went to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey, with blunt force trauma injuries. Of the 15 on board, only one person refused treatment, according to the AP.
“We feel so relieved there was no loss of life; the outcome could have been much worse,” a Skydive Cross Keys spokesperson said, according to Philadelphia TV station KYW.
The plane operator said it was “incredibly thankful for the skill and composure of our pilot, whose actions helped keep everyone alive. We’re also deeply grateful to the emergency responders who arrived so quickly and took such great care of everyone on board.”
