NextImg:Shooting near Home Depot in Brooklyn leaves woman in critical condition, man injured

Police in New York City said Saturday a woman is fighting for her life and a man was badly wounded in a shooting outside of a Home Depot in Brooklyn.

Authorities said the shooting occurred shortly after 12 p.m. Saturday in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, where an unknown number of assailants opened fire on the couple.

The woman, 26, was shot in the head and the man, 35, was shot in his knee, according to police.

Neither victim was identified. Both were taken to hospitals, where police said the woman was listed in critical condition.

Witnesses told the New York Daily News that the shooting stemmed from a dispute over a parking spot at Home Depot.

“‘The guy in the parking lot — he wanted my parking spot,’” Yadly Pena recalled the male victim saying, according to the newspaper. “‘I gave it to him and he started shooting at us!’”

Witnesses also told the Daily News the male victim had driven a short distance from the scene when he stopped and began asking bystanders for help.

The female victim was bleeding from her head and was drifting in and out of consciousness, witnesses said.

“She couldn’t talk,” Anlly Burgos told the newspaper. “The only time she talked was to tell the police her name and then after that she was dead silent.”

Police said no arrests have been made in the shooting.
