The death of a girl in Tucson, Arizona, caused by a falling school gate was investigated by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and found not to be a crime.

The girl was helping a staff member close the gate at Centennial Elementary School on Nov. 17 when the metal gate got disconnected from its supports and fell onto her, police said. She was pronounced dead at the hospital later that day.

On Tuesday, following an investigation into the incident, law enforcement said there were no criminal violations found in her death, according to The Associated Press.

The sheriff’s department has not publicly named the girl, nor did it specify the nature of her fatal injuries.

“We will take all steps necessary to make sure a terrible accident like this never happens again,” the Flowing Wells Unified School District said in a letter to parents last week, according to KGUN-TV.
