


Federal workers laid off due to the Department of Government Efficiency’s crackdown on wasteful spending may be eligible for deals and discounts at several District-area businesses.
On Friday, Lyman’s Tavern on Fourteenth Street NW is holding a fundraiser with the Federal Unionists Network. All proceeds for sales of drinks from sponsoring companies will go to support funds for federal workers, while 10% of all other proceeds will also be donated, according to Washingtonian.
The Right Proper Brewing Company in Northwest is offering federal workers, both those employed and laid-off, an $8 “Executive Order Me A Beer” online and in person with either a federal work ID or proof of termination. In Northeast, employees and contractors with federal IDs can get their tabs 15% off at the City-State Brewing Company, according to Washingtonian.
“We’re not trying to make any kind of political statement, we’re just trying to help our community. A lot of people are participating and it makes us feel nice and warm,” Right Proper Brewing Company cofounder Thor Cheston told WTOP-FM.
Yoga fans can look forward to deals at two area studios. On March 8, Yoga District is offering a free class to both current and former federal workers available in person at their First Street NW location and over Zoom.
Yoga Heights on Carroll Street NW is offering a free session to federal workers and contractors on Saturday with the promo code FREEPASS and a chakra meditation workshop the same day for half-off with the code HALFPRICE.
The company’s Georgia Avenue NW location is also offering free “soundbaths” to federal workers and contractors on Sunday and March 1, according to Washingtonian.
For pet owners, the Friendship Hospital for Animals in Tenleytown is waiving the cost of sick visit and emergency exams for the pets of laid-off federal workers and contractors.
“We wanted people to be able to have their pet examined in the case of them being sick or emergent, and not have to worry about that exam fee overhead. We are also offering extended payment plans on all of our services,” the hospital’s marketing manager Janay Austin-Carlson told WTOP-FM.
