The Senate Finance Committee will hold a confirmation hearing next Wednesday on Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination to serve as Health and Human Services secretary.
The panel’s notice of the hearing comes after Mr. Kennedy, one of President Trump’s more unconventional nominees, made the rounds on Capitol Hill, meeting with both Republican and Democratic senators in hopes of securing enough support to be confirmed.
Senators have raised concerns about Mr. Kennedy’s history of vaccine skepticism, a topic he is likely to be grilled about during the hearing.
He is also expected to face questions about his views on food and agriculture policies overseen by the Food and Drug Administration, which falls under HHS.
Republicans have also questioned Mr. Kennedy, a former Democrat, about his pro-choice views. GOP senators have said Mr. Kennedy assured them during private meetings that he would support Mr. Trump’s policies when it comes to abortion and pro-life protections, but they will likely want to make sure he goes on the record about that during the hearing.
