Rock-throwing illegal immigrant nabbed near border after being linked to attack during anti-ICE riot

An illegal immigrant who landed on the FBI’s Most Wanted list after allegedly hurling rocks at immigration agents in California was captured at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Federal authorities said Elpidio Reyna, 41, was nabbed Wednesday by border agents after being linked to the attack in Paramount, California, amid Los Angeles’ dayslong riots against Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids.
“You can run, but you cannot hide. If you attack a law enforcement officer, we’ll find you,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said.
The FBI said Mr. Reyna wore a motorcycle helmet June 7 as he pelted federal vehicles with stones from just a few feet away.
One federal agent was injured in the caught-on-camera assault.
“He was taken into custody by a U.S. Border Patrol officer who was inside one of the vehicles damaged in the attack — a brave law enforcement officer who could have been killed in last month’s dangerous and reckless attack,” U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, the top federal prosecutor in Los Angeles, said.
Prosecutors said Mr. Reyna faces up to eight years behind bars if convicted.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said this month that more than 40 people have been charged in connection to the riots that lasted for more than a week.
Those charged include a 17-year-old accused of attempted murder, a 37-year-old who jabbed a police officer with a flagpole and a 49-year-old man who pulled a knife on a preteen girl.
“We are continuing to review evidence, identify suspects and file charges where the law has been broken,” Mr. Hochman said. “I want to thank the team of investigators and prosecutors for their tireless efforts to ensure that those who committed criminal acts under the guise of protest are held accountable.”
The Los Angeles Police Department said more than 550 people were arrested during the eight days of protests and riots against federal immigration raids in the city. The bulk of those arrested were for failure to disperse orders.
Violent agitators blended in with the crowd and threw Molotov cocktails at police and drove motorcycles into skirmish lines. Others shot fireworks and pegged bottles at officers, and demonstrators blocked off part of U.S. 101 when they stormed the highway.
