President Biden’s campaign has tapped actor Robert De Niro to narrate its latest ad, which alleges former President Donald Trump has “snapped” and will “terminate the Constitution” if reelected.
The 30-second spot launched Friday as part of the Biden campaign’s $14 million paid media buy for May. It will air on television networks across battleground states and on national cable. The ad will also go live on digital platforms across battleground states starting Friday.
“From midnight tweets to drinking bleach to tear-gassing citizens and staging a photo op, we knew Trump was out of control when he was president,” Mr. De Niro says in the ad.
“Then he lost the 2020 election — and snapped. Desperately trying to hold onto power. Now he’s running again. This time threatening to be a dictator. To terminate the Constitution,” he says. “Trump wants revenge. And he’ll stop at nothing to get it.”
The ad shows a clip of Mr. Trump warning, “It’s going to be a bloodbath,” if he doesn’t win the election in November.
Mr. Trump used the term “bloodbath” at a March rally to describe the potential loss of auto manufacturing jobs if Mr. Biden wins a second term. He has complained that Mr. Biden took his words out of context.
A two-time Oscar winner, Mr. De Niro is an outspoken critic of the former president. He has previously called Mr. Trump a “gangster” and “crazy.” Mr. Trump has fired back, calling Mr. De Niro a “total loser.”
